The seminary girls slaughtered their teacher over 'blasphemy in dream'
In Lahore, Pakistan, a court has handed down the death penalty to two seminary students for the murder of a teacher, allegedly over blasphemy. Additional Sessions Judge-II Mohammad Jameel announced the capital punishment for Razia Hanifa and Ayesha Nauman, while another student received life imprisonment for their involvement in the brutal killing of their young teacher.
The tragic incident occurred in mid-2022 when seminary girls fatally attacked their teacher, Safoora, claiming to have learned about her alleged blasphemy in a dream. The assailants, hailing from Jamia Islamia Falah Al-Banat in Anjumabad, Dera-Multan Road, assaulted Safoora with a stick at the seminary's gate before slitting her throat.
The court also imposed fines of Rs20lac each on the two students sentenced to death and a Rs10lac fine on the student receiving a life sentence. Blasphemy remains a deeply sensitive issue in Pakistan, often leading to severe repercussions due to the strong emotions and reactions it can provoke.
